TAG Heuer Connected
The luxury watchmaker brings the latest smartwatch to the market.
An exciting announcement from TAG Heuer this week sees the Swiss watchmaker launch a high tech piece of wristwear that’s going straight to the top of our Christmas Lists.
In partnership with Google and Intel, TAG Heuer has created the world’s first luxury Android smartwatch. It’s a collaboration that brings Swiss luxury and sophistication to the smartwatch market, combining the finest craftsmanship and design with advanced digital capabilities.
David Singleton, Director of Engineering for Android Wear commented. “We’re thrilled to be working with TAG Heuer and Intel to bring a unique blend of emotion and innovation to the luxury market. Together, and using the Android Wear platform, we can imagine a better, beautiful, smarter watch.”
The TAG Heuer Connected (as the timepiece is called) is available in the US today and coming to Ernest Jones and the UK soon.
The design of the TAG Heuer Connected watch is true to a classic chronograph, with a 46 mm diameter and luxury grade 2 titanium case, back and lugs, the watch is light-weight and resistant to impact and scratches. Completed by a textured black rubber strap (other colour options include red, blue, white, orange, green and yellow) and titanium deploying buckle, the smartwatch has the elegant characteristics and exceptional finish synonymous with TAG Heuer.
But aside from the exquisite design, what else can we expect from the first luxury smartwatch? Importantly, the Swiss watch maker hasn’t abandoned its commitment to quality and longevity with this foray into the fast-changing world of digital technology.
Android Wear is seamlessly integrated into the watch’s aesthetic with information from partner applications is elegantly displayed inside the three counters on the chronograph dial at 12, 6 and 9 o'clock. A sapphire crystal touchscreen then enable users to entre full screen mode by touching any of the counters.
Intel engineered inside the watch enables a multitude of connectivity options including audio streaming, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as the full range of applications and features offered by the Android Wear operating system.
The TAG Heuer Connected watch has 4 GB of memory and an all-day battery life, plus the watch is equipped with a microphone to communicate with via Google voice control.
According to TAG’s UK Communication Manager, Alexander King, a major focus of the development process was the lifespan of the product. With a new break-through almost everyday digital technology, it was important the watch could stay cutting edge, and so the watches operating system is upgradeable and interchangeable.
King explains, “The watch will change the technology as it develops, Jean-Claude Biver was clear about that. We want to be able to change the technology but keep the watch elements… We want to create something that will stay (with you) for a lifetime.”
To complete the users’ experience an online platform has been created to share the latest new features and obtain the partner applications available for the interactive counters watch faces.
