Our charity
Ernest Jones supports The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The Trust was established in 1991 to raise awareness of carers' issues and offer support to carers by providing them with information, advice and support.
A carer is someone, who, without payment, provides help and support to a partner, child, relative, friend or neighbour, who could not manage without their help. This could be due to age, physical or mental illness, addiction or disability.
There are 6 million carers in the UK, including 175,000 who are under 18. Anyone can become a carer; carers come from all walks of life, all cultures and can be of any age.
Taking on a caring role can mean facing a life of poverty, isolation, frustration, ill health and depression. Many carers give up an income, future employment prospects and pension rights to become a carer. The majority of carers struggle alone and do not know that help is available to them. Carers say that access to information, financial support and breaks in caring are vital in helping them manage the impact of caring on their lives. This is where The Trust comes in; The Princess Royal Trust for Carers currently helps over 180,000 carers cope by giving information, support and advice through its network of 118 Carers' Centres, young carers' services and carers' website.
Ernest Jones has been supporting The Trust for ten years and during that time has donated over a million pounds to help the charity continue its vital work. Our help has enabled the charity to:
- open new Carers' Centres
- fund its core work to help the Centres offer the best support they can
- re-design its main website to enable even more carers to access support online
All of our catalogues carry the charity's details, we have collection tins and leaflets in stores and at Christmas time, Cubby Bear helps us raise the profile of The Trust even further.
