From the outset, Naomi and Dan planned to celebrate their love by hosting a small and intimate wedding, which played in their favour when they decided the global pandemic was not going to put a stop to their plans! The bride and groom were surrounded by their nearest and dearest on a gorgeous sunny day, as they married amongst a suburban vineyard, which is the exact venue they had originally chosen for their special day.

“Our wedding day was a reflection of us as a couple; low-key and relaxed. Ever since we got engaged in Edinburgh, we knew that we wanted an intimate wedding. The date we had initially chosen was special to us, so we weren’t prepared to postpone to a later date. We count ourselves as really lucky because our original plans didn’t have to change much due to the pandemic. The most important thing for us both was making sure that our wedding day was dog friendly, because we wanted our dog, George, to be a part of the wedding as much as possible.”

“Despite much of our wedding day going ahead as we had always hoped it would, it was either some fluke or miracle that we managed to get everything sorted in time for it to run smoothly! Having not known whether we were going to be able to have a wedding during the first few weeks that the country went into lockdown, we were forced to put all planning and arrangements on hold. We really didn’t have long at all to get everything in order once we were told that wedding ceremonies could go ahead again!”

“We hadn’t taken our wedding bands into consideration during the early stages of lockdown, so we dedicated a full day at our local shopping centre to find the perfect pair a few days before the wedding itself. We chose to browse the selection at Ernest Jones as we had no idea where to start or what we wanted them to look like. The team were incredibly welcoming, patient and helpful throughout the entire process, and after trying on countless styles, we found a set of rings that were perfectly ‘us’. The simple white gold bands were the perfect touch to our outfits on the day - we’re so happy with them!”

“As an extra special touch, we got Dan and George (our dog and ‘best man') a tie and bandana that matched. The pocket we had sewn onto the front of George's bandana carried the rings for us down the aisle, with a cute personal note that read ‘I do too’.”

“Being able to have George at the ceremony and afternoon tea is a beautiful memory that we’ll cherish forever. He provided so much entertainment and made everyone laugh throughout the day, as well as easing the anxiety we had about standing up in front of a group of people.”

“There’s nothing we would have done differently. It all worked out the way we had wanted it to, and we are so grateful to our friends and family who made this possible. Apart from having to decide to go ahead with the wedding despite not all the family being able to attend, everything else was perfect. From hair and makeup being taken care of by siblings and family friends, to hand making confetti using dried flower petals at multiple houses, our big day really was the result of team effort and the help of our amazing family and friends.”

“Every person that attended was delighted to reunite with family members who they hadn’t seen in a long time. It was especially significant because the last time many of us saw one another was at our late Nana’s funeral at the start of lockdown. It felt wonderful to dedicate a day to happiness during such a challenging time, where there hasn’t been a lot to smile about.”

“To appropriately mark the occasion, all of our guests received a reusable facemask as a wedding favour! A very fitting option for a lockdown wedding, and an item that can bring back memories of our wedding and put a smile on their face whenever it’s used.”

"Weddings are supposed to be all about you and your partner"

“Our main advice to anyone considering a lockdown wedding is to not compromise on the details which will make your big day as special as it possibly could be. If you want a big wedding, surrounded by all of your family and friends in full celebration with music, singing and dancing, then it’s worth postponing…but if you’d prefer an intimate or simple ceremony, similar to what we had, then the only thing standing in your way is the need to ensure that PPE, hand sanitiser and social distancing rules are in motion!”

“A wedding during a pandemic is a strange thing, but it’s unique in many ways – one of which is proving that despite the odds, nothing will stop you and your partner. It was an amazing day that we’ll never forget for so many reasons.”
