About Tudor

When Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, established the TUDOR brand in 1946, his vision was to create a watch that embodied both Swiss watchmaking quality and his own personal devotion to excellence yet sold at an accessible price. Recognised today for its retro-chic style and in-house technical expertise, TUDOR has long been the choice of bold adventurers; from the British, French and American Navies, to the rescue teams of the US Air Force, arctic explorers, deep-sea divers and more recently some of the most driven sportspeople and artistic performers of our time - Individuals who dare to push themselves to the limits.

History

In 1926 in Geneva, the house of Veuve de Philippe Hüther registered the trademark "The Tudor" on behalf of Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf. In 1946, Hans Wilsdorf officially established the TUDOR Watch Company. From the start, Wilsdorf focussed on TUDOR’s reliability, precision and water and shock resistance. To this end, TUDOR advertising campaigns show cased men working under extreme conditions for extended periods wearing TUDOR watches. These include a coal miner excavating by hand, a pneumatic drill operator and a motorbike racer. By 1952, Britain’s Royal Navy had taken 26 TUDOR Oyster waterproof watches on a scientific expedition to the artic. In the decades that followed, the French and American Navies and other military organisations adopted TUDOR diving watches including the Submariner. TUDOR innovations have included highly resistant sapphire crystal dial covers and the Pelagos diving watch, waterproof to 500 metres. In 2015, Tudor introduced in-house manufacture movements that boast 70-hour power reserves and are COSC certified.

Collections

Black Bay

The TUDOR Black Bay diving watches celebrate TUDOR’s longstanding relationships with some of the world’s largest navies and are all water-proof to 200 metres. Using inspiration from a 1954 TUDOR Submariner, each Black Bay model features a domed dial, prominent winding crown and signature angular Snowflake hour hand, introduced in 1969 to improve readability. Models include the Black Bay Bronze, which alludes to the bronze of historic ships and diving equipment, sports a brown aged leather strap and the Black Bay S&G (steel and gold) and Black Bay Steel introduced a date function to the Black Bay for the first time in 2017.

Pelagos

Waterproof to 500 metres, the Pelagos is a diving tool watch having been tested to the extreme in locations including the 320m deep Lake Geneva near the TUDOR HQ. With a 70 hour power reserve, the Pelagos divers' watch was awarded the 2015 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève in the sports watch category. Available in blue and black and as a Left Hand version, it is one of the first TUDOR watches to house the Tudor Manufacture calibre andbe awarded the prestigious COSC Swiss watch industry certification for timekeeping accuracy.

TUDOR 1926
