On 6th February 1952, Her Majesty The Queen became, well, Her Majesty The Queen. Seventy years on, she’s 96 and we head into a summer of Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Charting the course of a reign as record-breaking as it is unique, we’re putting on our finest platinum jewellery and playing queen for the day (actually, the whole weekend). It’s a known fact that the Queen has long been a fan of platinum jewellery for women, regularly wearing platinum pieces and lending her favourites to her family, including Kate Middleton and Princess Diana.

To mark this unprecedented milestone, accessorise with platinum jewellery and raise a toast to Queen and country with our favourite platinum jewellery styles, from platinum eternity rings to platinum diamond necklaces. Read on to discover this summer’s platinum jewellery trends and how to care for your beloved platinum pieces.

When is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee?

Although the 70th anniversary itself fell on 6th February 2022, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee date starts on Friday 3rd June 2022 – with the hope that the summer will bring better weather (we’ve got our fingers crossed). The spring bank holiday which ordinarily falls in late May will be moved to 2nd June, creating a four day weekend and allowing for plenty of activities (and opportunities to wear our platinum jewellery) to mark the occasion.

How many years is a Platinum Jubilee?

A Platinum Jubilee marks a monarch’s 70-year reign on the throne. This June we’ll be celebrating the landmark reign of our beloved Queen, marking the occasion with a bank holiday and country-wide Platinum Jubilee celebrations – the perfect excuse to add a touch of platinum to your jewellery box, if you ask us.

Celebrate with a platinum necklace

To celebrate Her Majesty’s reign, complete your outfit with a platinum necklace for a captivating focal point. Queen Elizabeth II often opts for a platinum pendant necklace, from diamond drop necklaces to gemstone pendants, nothing says sophistication quite like a platinum necklace so is sure to add one to your Platinum Jubilee look. The best bit? Its heirloom quality will last for generations to come.

For a platinum necklace with vintage appeal, a modern classic cluster is an obvious choice. From elegant emerald-shaped cluster pendants to pear-shaped cluster pendants, these are simple yet stunning, and worthy of a royal celebration. If you're attending a Great British garden party, accessorise with a platinum cluster cushion pendant or a simple platinum diamond solitaire necklace – a beautiful way to mark the milestone moment.

Celebrate with a platinum ring

The Royals are famed for their good taste in rings; from Princess Diana’s blue sapphire engagement ring to the Duchess of Sussex’s three-carat cushion cut diamond ring, the royal ring collection is a sight to behold. If you’re attending a Platinum Jubilee lunch or you’re off to drink Pimm’s in the park, dress with royal flair with a platinum ring.

Mark the momentous occasion with a platinum eternity ring – a symbol of eternal love reminiscent of the Queen’s lifetime devotion to her country. From clusters to halos and claw-set bands, accessorise like a royal with a mixed cut diamond eternity ring comprising marquise, baguette and pear-cut diamonds on a single platinum band. Or, complete your stack of platinum rings with a uniquely crafted emerald-cut diamond eternity ring.

How to clean platinum jewellery

Cleaning platinum is crucial if you want to retain the sparkle of your platinum jewellery. From platinum wedding jewellery to platinum engagement rings, keep it in tip-top condition in a few easy steps.

Cleaning platinum jewellery:

  1. Firstly, give your platinum jewellery a thorough clean using a bowl of warm and soapy water or a specialist platinum jewellery cleaning solution. Wipe the platinum all over using a damp cloth to remove any debris which has collected over time.
  2. For stuck-on dirt, remove with a soft-bristled toothbrush or cotton wool bud.
  3. Leave the platinum to soak for around 30 minutes in the warm water solution before rinsing under clean running water to remove any soapy residue.
  4. Once rinsed, dry the platinum jewellery by patting it with a clean towel. Alternatively, leave on a clean surface to dry naturally for around 20 minutes.
  5. Once dry, gently buff in a circular motion using a lint-free cloth to restore its original lustre.
