Waste Electrical And Electronic Equipment Directive(WEEE Directive)

Ernest Jones is part of Signet Jewelers Ltd

As a responsible retailer, Signet is committed to helping the Government meet its targets under new EU legislation known as The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive which is now in force. This is designed to help local authorities, businesses and households make better use of old electrical goods by recycling as much as possible and preventing items which may contain hazardous substances going to landfill.

WEEE is one of the fastest growing waste streams in Europe, and every year, UK households thrown away millions of items. At present, many of these items are not sorted for treatment or recycling and end up buried in landfill sites. As well as creating potential health problems for future generations, this puts great pressure on the environment and uses up valuable resources.

Old electrical equipment should no longer be thrown out with your general rubbish. You can now ask retailers if they will take products back or, alternatively, you can take old equipment to your nearest civic amenity site. This way, you can help in making recycling much more effective. Please ask a member of staff for details.

Signet Provides A 'Take Back' Service Free Of Charge

If you are purchasing a new product which is battery powered from one of our stores or from our website and you have an old one of the same or similar type which you want to throw away, we will take the old one and dispose of it for you at no charge. Please note that we can only take back old products in our retail stores.

If you purchased a new battery powered product from our website and want us to dispose of a similar old product for you, please bring the old item into an Ernest Jones store within 30 days of your purchase. You will be required to show proof of purchase (i.e. the despatch note accompanying your order) for the new product. Please note that old products cannot be returned to us by post.

Products which are covered by the WEEE Directive are identifiable by a crossed out wheeled bin symbol which must now be shown on goods placed on the market after 13 August 2005.
