Paying tribute to Her Majesty’s Armed Forces, Bremont’s well-respected heritage and reputation within the British military made the British watchmaker a natural partner of choice for the Ministry of Defence since 2019. In celebration of this honourable affiliation, Bremont continues to pioneer with three new additions to their existing Armed Forces Collection: The Broadsword Bronze.

As official partners of the Ministry of Defence, Bremont are now the only luxury watchmakers that are legitimately allowed to use the signs, symbols and Heraldic Badges of all three services; the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force. Bremont has now created numerous bespoke projects at the request of personnel from all branches of the British armed forces, and remains to be widely recognised within the industry for its discretion, its patriotism and its reputation for supplying products that are fit for purpose.

Nick English, Bremont Co-Founder, commented: “We are still incredibly humbled by the recognition that Bremont was given by the MoD to create the Armed Forces Collection. These watches have been extremely popular and with our close military connections it has been a lovely way of using our expertise to offer a military watch to one and all. After the success we’ve seen using bronze in our Project Possible watch, it felt like a great fit to produce the Broadsword in this material, particularly with its use being so crucial in naval history. Achieving the right balance between a contemporary feel and a nostalgic nod to the classic design of military watches was critical in the design process.”

The newly launched Broadsword Bronze timepieces are the latest additions to the original line up in their Armed Forces Collection. Representing its strong ties to the Ministry of Defence, the use of bronze across the three newly launches Broadsword Bronze timepieces within this collection signifies the material’s importance in naval engineering due to its high corrosion resistance to salt water.

The Broadsword case has been created using a solid copper alloy with 8% tin, known as CuSn8 bronze. Whilst the high tin content plays a vital role in adding strength, wear and resistance to corrosion, it is the dominant copper content within CuSn8 bronze which makes the appearance of this watch particularly special. As the components in bronze make it a ‘living’ metal, the copper will overtime allow for the unique and fascinating patina to develop on each watch as it beings to oxidise, meaning that no two watches will ever look the same after wear. As the patina continues to develop, a deep brown hue will form which acts as a barrier to protect it from the elements.

The new bronze editions are available in three different coloured dials and strap variations, complementing the existing range. To complete the original specification for the British Army, the slate, sotek and tobacco dials all feature a sub-second’s hand at six o’clock, as well as multiple layers of luminous paint on both the dial and hands. The Broadsword Bronze houses the chronometer rated BE-95-2AV movement inside its two-piece 40mm case featuring a steel, screw-in case back stamped with the badges of all three services.
